// Motivation

Collaboration for innovation

Our Research & Development (R&D) department focuses on identifying and integrating new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), teleoperation, embedded systems and software-defined vehicles (SDVs). To advance these innovative solutions and standards, we have collaborated with industry and academic partners for over 20 years on forward-looking national and international research projects. Collecting, analyzing and visualizing data provides engineers with valuable insights into their development projects. Simplified access to data is crucial for fast, efficient decision-making processes when applying vehicles.

With the project results, we support the automotive industry in developing efficient and sustainable mobility solutions. This includes standardizing communication through ASAM/ISO/SAE protocols and implementing embedded software components for measurement, calibration and diagnostics (MCD). We also incorporate relevant approaches into quality improvements and product optimizations of our own MCD tools. These approaches often form the basis for opening up new fields of applications and standards.

The automotive industry is experiencing profound change. Innovations like electromobility, connected and autonomous driving as well as software-defined vehicles (SDVs) are influencing and accelerating this transformation, alongside growing environmental concerns and the impact of climate change. We believe it is our responsibility to face these challenges together. With extensive expertise in database development, telematics and teleoperation, RA Consulting has been a trusted partner in both national and international research projects for many years. Our R&D department remains a cornerstone of our company.

Increased safety through sensor validation in the ADAS sector

In the research project RepliCar, led by ANAVS GmbH, partners are investigating reference sensor technology for high-precision sensor validation for automated driving.

Reducing noise emissions from tires in road traffic

RA Consulting is working with the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), the RWTH Aachen University and other partners on forward-looking, AI-supported solutions for reducing tire-road noise emissions. The TyreRoadNoise project aims to make mobility more efficient, safer, and sustainable.

Telematics for validating automated driving functions

To validate AI-based driving functions, the Real Drive Validation (RDV) consortium evaluated the possibilities of transmitting real-time data from the vehicle with the aim of teleoperation. Further project participants include the Fraunhofer Institute EMI, DEKRA, TÜV Nord and TH Augsburg.

Efficient and intelligent validation of High-tech Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs)

The European research project ASOMIV-D aimed to develop innovative technologies and software that could autonomously and effectively carry out system optimization tasks. The project was successfully completed thanks to the combination of AI and digital twins.

Efficient testing of highly automated vehicles with AI

After three years of intensive collaboration, the KIsSME project was successfully completed in 2023. New filter methods for recording sensor and environmental data in the context of automated driving significantly reduced the amount of data collected. These filter methods enable a considerable increase in the efficiency of data analysis.

Setting the course for digital transformation and sustainable mobility

The trends and developments that we are researching with partners from other industries far exceed the typical requirements of the automotive industry. To successfully drive digital transformation processes and infrastructure projects, we must ensure the collection, management, preparation, and simulation of large amounts of data.

For over 35 years, RA Consulting has supported customers in setting up and developing database and data management systems.

Due to our extensive knowledge of on-board diagnostics (OBD) and automotive standards, we provide valuable contributions to customer and research projects concerning connectivity, teleoperation and SDV.

In collaboration with our experienced partners of the Automotive Electronics Testing Alliance (AETA)—HighQSoft, emotive, and Intrepid Control Systems—we offer seamless endpoint-to-edge-to-cloud solutions for testing and validation projects based on standardized processes and toolchains.

TELEOPERATION / TELEMATICS

We are working on the integration of telematics systems in vehicles to support manufacturers in improving vehicle performance and efficiency, as well as reducing the amount of data by selectively capturing relevant information. In doing so, we are utilizing established technologies such as GPS, mobile communication and WLAN, while also exploring new possibilities such as IMUs, high-resolution RADAR sensors, and AI-based filters.

New sensors and the increasing connectivity of vehicles lead to an enormous amount of data that needs to be collected, processed and utilized. We are researching solutions to make data collection more efficient and to support vehicle development.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

The integration of AI technologies in vehicles, for example, opens up new possibilities for vehicle control and optimization. Our research focuses on the increased availability of relevant data and the reduction of data transmission through the training of AI-based algorithms.

The development of autonomous vehicles is a key focus of our research. We are working on the integration of sensors and control systems to improve the safety and reliability of autonomous systems.

Connected mobility solutions require a dynamically adaptable, data-driven vehicle world (software-defined vehicles). We develop solutions for integrating modern technologies into new vehicle architectures, enabling communication and interaction with their environment.

By integrating cloud services into vehicles, data can be made instantly available. We are researching solutions for integrating cloud technology into mobile systems in order to improve data processing and accessibility.

We can do much more than just automotive

In addition to the automotive sector, we develop customized solutions for complex ECU architectures. Our innovative embedded system development also supports many other fields of application with state-of-the-art measurement, calibration and visualization tools, e.g., marine, off-road, air traffic, energy storage sector or industrial applications.
