Tech Talk at Diagnostics Conference in Dresden

May 7, 2024

On May 14 and 15, the 17th Annual Conference – Diagnostics in Mechatronic Vehicle Systems will take place in Dresden. In his technical talk “From telemetry to teleoperation”, Dr. Frank Hantschel will report on the possibilities of mobile communication based on use cases from the BMWK research projects RepliCar and Real Drive Validation (RDV). The use cases range from the transmission of raw data to the remote operation of vehicles.

A key challenge here is the wireless, efficient transmission of data from moving vehicles to the infrastructure and vice versa. For the development of autonomous vehicles at level 4 and above, i.e. without the intervention of a driver, the prerequisites for the validation of safe and connected driving functions must first be created, where teleoperation can play a major role. The legal basis for this is the proposed StVG regulation § 1d StVG [17], which was passed by the Bundestag and Bundesrat. Other key topics of the conference include service-oriented, remote, cloud-based vehicle diagnostics as well as standardization, cybersecurity, and AI in diagnostics.

As a member of the RDV consortium, RA Consulting has provided two different use cases with corresponding requirements for connection quality. Based on these specifications, the various technologies were examined for their suitability based on research results and the technical specifications of the respective standards and manufacturers. The use cases were examined for their feasibility. Initial results will now be presented at IAD in Dresden.
